Can a localized thermal burn cause entire body to itch?

Two and a half weeks ago I burned my wrist on an oven element causing a second degree burn. All of the blisters have healed and the new skin is well on it's way to completely healing but itches like crazy. As of a couple days ago my entire body has started itching. This burn was only on my left wrist and about two inches in circumference. A couple of years ago I got a scald burn on my forearm that was much bigger and when it was going through the itchy healing process the rest of my body also started itching as well. Does anyone know what causes this and how to treat it? It's absolutely miserable. Oatmeal baths and peppermint oil only bring short term relief. I have been scouring the internet looking for any kind of explanation of how a healing burn could possibly cause my entire body to itch. Last time I experienced this the itching went away after the burn had completely healed.
