Some quick facts about our son:
1. Had a liver transplant about 1.5 years ago.
2. Is on Prograf (and is not at 'intoxicated' levels).
3. Is currently also dealing with a mild bronchitis
About a week ago his cheeks developed little bright red areas about the size of quarters. These red areas only appeared on each cheek. Over the next few days, the redness moved to the area between his nose
At first he was not irritated by it, but he is now very itchy in the affected area and he is constantly scratching his mouth and this area.
We are going to specialists (pediatrician, gastrointerologist) and hopefully we'll see a dermatoligist today, but nobody has a clue what is causing this yet. He does have some allergies, mostly due to the fact that he is taking Prograf, but we are unsure if this is an allergic reaction
Rashes accompanied by swelling and difficulty breathing can be dangerous. I hope you have now seen the dermatologist and this has been picked up on. Scratching can cause secondary infection and make diagnosis more difficult. For $19 you can go to the Ask a Doctor dermatology forum, and ask Dr Rockoff this question. Good luck and i hope your son recovers soon. Loiloi x
