Chronic Hives

I have had this condition for 7 weeks now. Awful hives. My dermatologist THINKS I am having an allergic reaction to a tatoo I got about 2 months ago. He says allergic to the red ink. Now he wants to cut it off. It is kinda big and on my calf. He says the surgery will be rough. I don't know what to do.
Has anyone ever heard of allergic reactions to tatoos?

Yes, allergic reactions to tatoos not common but do tend to happen.
