Clindamycin- Dry Lips?

Hello,
I've been on acne treatment for 7 months, been using Clindamycin, and Ive never felt this great about my skin. My skin has cleared up and i feel wonderful. But ever since ive been on this treatment, I've been experiencing dry lips! So i asked my doctor, and he said the medicine had nothing to do with it. So I've been testing EVERY lip balm, and the reaction i get from these are bumps, swelling, and burning sensation. Im starting to question, could it really be this medication thats affecting my lips? Please help.

Thanks.

Thank You for your response!

I have tried Vaseline and it was working for 3 weeks and then my lips started getting bumps. My dr gave me a sample of Topicort ointment to apply when my lips get a reaction to any lip balm. And that seem to keeps things down. But i cant use this ointment forever due to thining of the skin. Im going to try the hydrocortisone and see how that works. Ill keep you posted on how that is.

Thanks again doc!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Dryness of the skin and lips and itching are common side effect of this drug. Avoid licking the lips as saliva evaporates quickly resulting in them being drier than before. Drink plenty of water and take multivitamin supplements and do not apply lipstick or other cosmetic products for some days. Use a humidifier to moisturize the air in your home and apply shea butter or Vaseline on your lips. If a week of compresses and emollients don't do the trick, you can add over-the-counter 1 percent hydrocortisone ointment to your regimen.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
