Concerned

by Scorpio1024, Mar 30, 2008 06:34PM
I had sex with a guy a total of 3 times and he performed oral sex on me, but i didn't on him.  The first two times we had sex i didn't have any outbreaks but the third time i started having these bumps. I went and got tested and the results came back positive for herpes.  I don't know which type i have but i am concerned. He said that he was negative for herpes, but the health department in which the city we are located doesn't do blood test and he shows no signs.  I have had several sex partners, but i have never had any outbreaks and neither have they. When reading about the symptoms of herpes i didn't experience any of these symptoms. Can you please help me understand?

Hi,

If the herpetic lesions are found in the genitals, this is more likely caused by herpes simplex type 2 .Although type 1 may also be implicated, genital lesions are more likely due to infection by HSV type 2.

Herpes simplex virus may be acquired during sexual activity.Any breaks in the skin and direct contact may lead to an infection by the herpes simplex virus.During an infection, there is an incubation period of about two weeks. At this point the patient does not present with any symptoms. After this phase, blisters begin to form. This is the moment when the patient becomes contagious. Then the blisters erode to form wet erosions on the skin.During this time the person is highly infectious.

Not all persons infected with the virus are symptomatic. A healthy immune system may easily contain the virus. The person may not show the symptoms but is actually a carrier of the HSV virus.

For all you know, some of these persons you had sexual contact with though asymptomatic  may be carriers of the virus. This may explain why you are currently diagnosed with the condition.
