Concerning Pink Patch of Skin on Thigh

Hello,

I started noticing a small pinkish patch of skin on my thigh about two months ago. It was about the size of a dime, it wasn't painful, didn't ever itch, and never appeared to be "scaly," as I know some skin conditions can be related to. It has since grown to be about the size of a golf ball, but still has no symptoms associated with it. Sometimes the shade of pink changes throughout the day; it tends to be less pink at certain times of the day than at others; and sometimes it can appear to be more prominent (even resembling what appears to look like a bruise). It hasn't grown any bigger in the last month or so, and seems to be staying the same size.

Back in February when I first started noticing it, I became ill with the flu and went to the doctor. At that time I had my family doctor examine it and she thought it was a patch of dry skin at first and shrugged it off to nothing. About four weeks ago, I had my yearly physical and since the patch of skin had gotten larger I had my OB/GYN take a look at it. She wasn't exactly sure what it was but suggested trying an anti-fungal cream. I haven't yet tried the anti-fungal cream sp I'm not even sure if it will work.

As stated, there really aren't any noticeable symptoms; no itching, no pain associated with it, and it doesn't appear to be scaly in appearance. It's not a raised surface either, it's the same level as my other skin, the only thing concerning is the color (the pinkish tones throughout the day, even how it can resemble a very slight bruise) and that it has changed shapes over the past couple of months.

I am in between jobs right now, thus I am out of health insurance which is why I can't go see a doctor or dermatologist to have this checked out. =( If anyone has any suggestions as to what this may be please do let me know. I would greatly appreciate any insight you might have!

Thanks!
Melissa

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
HI,

If there was no previous traua to this area, this could be an infection, dermatitis or eczema. For proper diagnosis, it is recommended to have this evaluated directly. Fungal infection usually responds well to over-the-counter anti-fungal medication. If you can not see a dermatologist, you can treat this as a fungal infection. However, if it persists, it is best that you have this checked for proper diagnosis and proper management.

Take care and keep us posted.
