Confused about brown bumps on penis. PLEASE READ

by confused6111, Oct 07, 2009 11:03AM
I was recently shaving my pubic region and after I took off the hair I noticed a few small bumps around the base of my shaft. I have never noticed them before but they are so tiny that it is possible they have always been there, I can't really be sure but theres a good chance theyre new.

If I had seen these on my upper arm or something I would have thought they were just normal blemishes and never given them a second thought. However, my ex-girlfriend found out she had HPV due to a irregular pap smear and I know that HPV can cause genital warts so I am freaking out. To top it off I am a very paranoid person to boot.

These bumps are no bigger than 1mm (most are much smaller than 1mm[like .25 mm). They are circular and tan/light brownish and slightly raised. There are not very many of them. There are 2-3 of them located on one part of my shaft and another 2-3 on the opposite side. There is also another one in a diff part of the mid shaft. They do not hurt/ itch. They are not uncomfortable. They look NOTHING like any pictures of any skin condition I have seen and I spent the last day scanning every genital warts picture on the internet. They look / feel like fordyce spots except that they are very slightly larger and they are alittle pigmented. If you looked at my penis you certainly would not notice them unless I specifically told you they were there and pointed them out.

I tried picking at them and taking them off with a razor but they were too small for the razor and all I did was cut myself, and picking at it didn't do much either, I just made myself bleed.

I am frightened of what this will mean. Does this sound like anything that any of you have heard of? I have not had any unprotected sex. I have had multiple partners during my lifetime but to be honest not much sex at all within the last year. I am 22 years old. Additionally, I don't know if this matters but the last few weeks I haven't been showering as regularly as I usually do (only every other day) just because I have been busy [I am usually a very clean person]. But I don't think these are clogged hair follicles.

Hello,
Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough, but it sounds like Fordyce spots. They are small, painless, raised, pale or white spots or bumps 1 to 3 mm in diameter that may appear on the shaft of the penis. The spots are a form of ectopic sebaceous gland, and are not known to be associated with any disease or illness and are of cosmetic concern only. They are non-infectious and a natural occurrence on the body.

They should be got removed only for cosmetic reasons as they are normally found on the penis. I hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
