Confused about skin growths

by Troyboy_42, Mar 04, 2007 12:00AM
Hi, Doctor -

I have two skin growths I'm concerned about.  I have pictures of the growths here:

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/trombone1029/detail?.dir=/b7edre2&.dnm=52d1re2.jpg&.src=ph

1 & 2) The first two pics are of a growth I've had for years on the sole of my left foot.  I don't know for sure, but I've probably had it at least five years (maybe more even).  Does it look like anything to be concerned about?  Can a skin cancer actually exist for years without spreading and causing other bodily harm?

3 & 4) The last two pics are of a spot I noticed last night on my left knee.  It's maybe a 1/4 inch in size or slightly bigger.  In person, it has almost the appearance and color of a bruise, but it's not a bruise.  It doesn't hurt when I push on it.  It's completely flat.  Wouldn't know anything is there if I ran my finger over it with my eyes closed

Thanks for your help.

The sole spot looks like a benign fibrous growth.  The other one looks like a dermatofibroma, another benign growth.  You'll need to see a doctor in person for a definite diagnosis.

Take care.

Dr. Rockoff -

I write this as a 2nd part to my first posting.  Since my mind has been on skin cancer a lot today (thanks to my internet research), I wanted to ask you about a third skin lesion I have.  I included two pics of it in the gallery that I gave you the link to in my first posting.  They would be pics 5 & 6.

Basically, I've had it for months now.  Again, I'm not exactly sure how long, but it may even be a year.  It's on my right forearm, is about 1/4 inch in size or slightly smaller, is a slightly raised pinkish/reddish bump and reminds me of a zit that won't go away.  Sometimes I pick at it and then it begins to scab over again.  But it never goes entirely away.

Any thoughts on it?  Thanks so much for your valuable time and input.
