Could this be HPV?

by Markwaldo, Mar 19, 2004 12:00AM
Hello.  I had sex with a girl about one month ago and wore a condom.  She did not have any visible signs of warts, but during intercourse, I noticed that there was some vaginal discharge that had a strong odor and a milky white consistency.  When we were finished, I noticed that I had some of the discharge in my pubic hair and I wiped it off.  Since then, I have had what appears to be jock itch that has all but disappeared by using Tinactin jock itch spray.  But I have also noticed that now I have a small flesh-colored bump in the crease between where my groin area meets the base of my penis.  It's more on my groin area though.  It itches sometimes and I have been applying Neosporin for the past few days.  I have not noticed any other bumps in or around my penis or groin area.  I read that vinegar is sometimes used to detects genital warts, so I poured vinegar on the bump and it did not turn white or any other color.  I'm not exacly sure what this could be.  I had two bumps removed from my pubic region about two months ago that my dermatologist said were Molluscum Contagiosum.  Could this just be another one of those?  It doesn't seem to have a dimple like the other two did.  I have an appointment to see the dermatologist in about 3 weeks, but I just wanted another opinion prior to the doctor visit.  I'd appreciate any feedback you could provide.  Thanks for your time.

Yes, it could be another molluscum--they often appear in the vicinity after treatment and need to be mopped up with another session or two.  At times it's hard to appreciate the "dimple" on these until they're frozen with liquid nitrogen.  HPV tends to be on the shaft, rather than the base of the penis.  Vinegar is unreliable as a test.

I'm betting on either molluscum or perhaps just a pimple.  See the dermatologist as planned, and check it out.

Best.
