I'm a 13 year old male. I have what originally appeared to be pimple-like growths less than 1cm in diameter on my right side, however I just noticed that one has taken a crater-like shape and has a very thin, black growth coming out of it. What could this be?
Two possibilities are coming to my mind after reading your post. First possibility is of sebaceous cyst and the second possibility is of molluscum contagiosum. Sebaceous cyst is a closed sac occurring just under the skin which contains a "pasty" looking substance called keratin. Molluscum contagiosum is a self limiting viral and highly contagious disease which presents as multiple, small, dome-shaped papules, often with a central depression or plug. Since it is self limiting, so no treatment is usually required.
For a sebaceous cyst, no treatment is required but they become painful then it means they are infected, then surgical excision by traditional wide excision, minimal excision, and punch biopsy excision may be required.
I sincerely hope it helps. Take care and please do keep us posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
