Crotch rash I can't figure out

So for years I have had this rash. They don't ooze or anything it's just like... lighter colored than the rest of my skin and there is a layer of loose skin over it that comes off easily when I scratch. It is on my scrotum near where that crease between my crotch and leg skin meet. Then there is also a patch of it above my anus. It's not around the ring but about an inch above it. That patch bleeds very easily and it stings. I have never don e anything to treat it, I have just lived with it but I am getting sick of this. Any help?

Hi

You may try the mildly potent ones first like 1% hydrocortisone to be applied over the area for at least two weeks. See if this responds. Ask your father to help you assess this. If the redness and the itchiness or any burning sensation seem to persist then you need to have this assessed . Make sure there are no open wounds or ulcerations and excoriation in the area before applying any of these creams.

Hey, could I just self prescribe myself Lamisil? Well, not exactly self prescribe... My father is an 81 year old retired Neurosurgeon and he is saying to just put some Lamisil on it. He said he will go buy some Lam tomorrow and for now gave me this other cream for Athlete's Foot and I put that on but it felt like my nuts were being roasted over an open fire (And it wasn't Christmas like at all). It is called Desenex. Will Lamisil feel like that too? Do I pretty much have to choose between this fungal feasting or my balls burning? (Great Balls of Fire perhaps?)

Thanks

Hi

This may be a case of a fungal infection. Fungal infection or jock itch may prefer the groin area as the area is usually moist and frequently covered. The skin may have a reddish color with sharply demarcated reddish borders. The rash is usually itchy with small vesicles. There may be some slight scaling in the area and this may readily slough off as the area becomes more moist and weeping. An overlying dermatitis should also be considered here.

Have this assessed by your doctor so that topical medications may be given you.
