Cystic Acne or Cold Sore?

I have what I thought was a large pimple on my lip. I usually get cystic acne on my chin or around my mouth, so I just assumed that it was a large pimple. However, a few of my friends pointed out that it looked like a cold sore, plus it's almost completely on the lip (not the skin around it). I have not been in contact with anyone who has had a cold sore in the past year and no one in my family has it. I have never had this happen before. Though, I did go to the dentist a week before it appeared--if it's possible for it to be transferred that way. There was a small bump on my lip a day before it appeared on Sunday morning. It has not leaked liquid or "weeped" at all, and it hasn't crusted over yet either thought it is mildly painful to the touch. I tried to get it swabbed at the doctor's office so it could be tested but since there was no liquid coming out there was nothing to test. I wondering whether it's possible to get acne on the lip, or any other kind of sore, that is not a herpes cold sore. Thanks.

hi,
why do u keep copy pasting something we can probably already find online?
people come to medhelp to clear their minds and get opinions but you ignore the question and just copy paste ur def of a cold sore.

it would be a lot more helpful if we could get your opinion instead!

Hi,

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus, and they're contagious. Signs and symptoms of cold sores include:
-Small, painful, fluid-filled blisters on a raised, red, painful area of your skin
-Pain or tingling, called the prodrome, often precedes the blisters by one to two days
-Usual duration of seven to 10 days

Cold sores usually appear on your lips. Occasionally, they occur on your nostrils, chin or fingers.

Cold sores generally clear up without treatment in seven to 10 days. If you experience frequent bouts, your doctor may prescribe an antiviral medication to treat cold sores.

Let us know if you need any further information.

Regards.
