My scalp is very dry. I'm having excessive hair loss. Can dry scalp cause hair loss? I have a prescription shampoo for dry scalp which directs my to use twiceTwice-a-day a week. But it seems when I wash my hair even more loss occurs.
A consult with an internist may be able to guide you. One has to rule out alopecia areata, hair loss due to mechanical causes ( like frequent styling) and even iron deficiency. Iron levels and thyroid hormone levels need to be assessed. Deficient iron,Vit B complex and zinc may leadLead poisoning to hair loss and dry scalp. Hypothyroidism may also present with hair loss.

Firstly, the cause for your dry scalp has to be evaluated. The climate, stress, poor diet deficient from minerals and vitamins, hormonal imbalance , chemicals, allergies may lead to scalp and hair disorders.Do you have any other underlying illnesses? Any intake of medications?
