Dark Dry Skin

I have patches of dry dark skin, that don't look flattering, it makes me feel uncomfortable. I read somewhere that it is a fungus, but I wasn't sure how it got there and why it is spreading. I would like someone to help me out with this please.

Please elaborate the symptoms, site, description of rash as it is very difficult to confirm a diagnosis with out examination. It can be eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, pityriasis versicolor etc. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
