Dark patches all over body

My brother had case of itchy rashes  over his both hands and legs only. He had treatment under ayurveda as it was the treatment he had undertaken when he had the same 6 yrs back. the  red patches gave way to black spots by 6 months. still that black areas remain. i want ur valuable diagnosis for his problem and treatment for this. I m attaching a photo of lateral side of his leg.

It can be due to an allergic reaction to the medicine causing fixed drug eruption reaction or hyperpigmentation skin. FDE or fixed drug eruption may fade slowly and so may take a long time to go away. Although they resolve spontaneously but an oral antihistamine (e.g., hydroxyzine) and a topical corticosteroid may be needed. I would suggest you to consult a dermatologist and get it evaluated.
