Dark spots from Mole Removal

Hey there,
On June 21, 2010 I got my moles removed with a laser. My moles were not big at all. The doctor prescribed some spray that sped up the growing process and told me that after 2 weeks if I had any dark spots on where my moles used to be that I should use hydroquinone cream two times a day for four days. I did not get any dark spots until the about the third week, and now have been using it for about 20 days and there are still dark spots... what should I do?

I am still confused on what to do, the dermatologist was not helpful at all and just stated the obvious.

The dermatologist knows I'm using hydroquinone and says it isn't dangerous at all, I had an examination gave me the options of bleaching and liquid nitrogen.

Hello,
I strongly suggest you not to use hydroquinone cream without a dermatologist’s supervision. Hydroquinone has been proven to be carcinogenic and is not FDA approved in USA. Firstly get an examination done from a dermatologist and then only start with the treatment.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

I had an appointment with a dermatologist today... he was very unhelpful... he isn't sure if it is moles growing back larger than before or if it is hyper-pigmentation from sun exposure... I am 90% sure that it is sun exposure, so should I just keep using hydro quinone cream?

Hello,
It is very common for moles to regrow and they may vary in size from the original one that has been removed. Usually they are smaller in size than the previous one and very rarely is a bigger one seen.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Thank you for responding! I honestly don't mind if my moles reoccur but is it possible for the moles to grow bigger than before I got them removed?

I have an appointment on Monday. THANK YOU!

Hello,
Some dark spots and hyperpigmentation is a common side effect after mole removal but I would like to rule out the possibility of any recurrence of the mole as well. For this you need to get an evaluation done from your dermatologist who has removed the mole.
