Daughter's fading hemangioma

by cecedw, Aug 11, 2008 10:35PM
Hi, my daughter was two weeks old when I noticed a hemangioma on her right ear lobe the size of a pea. Her former physician said that it was superficial and non cancerous and would probably eventually go away. Well she is four years old now and it has flattened with little red specks. So my questions is, after her hemangioma fades is it safe for her to have her ears pierced or should it be avoided at all cost? Thanks

Hi

At this point, ear piercing my not be advisable. However, if the hemangioma has resolved as evaluated by your doctor then ear piercing may not be an issue. I would suggest however, that you have this evaluated by your daughter's physician first as hemangiomas may resolve spontaneously as the child grows older however, as these are blood vessels the risk of prolonged or profuse bleeding may still be present.
