Dermatitis

About two months ago I developed a rash on my scrotum.  For about a month I tried everything from hydrocortizone, lamicil, gold bond, jock itch powders, and creams etc.  I finally went to the dermatologist, she said that it is irritant dermatits and to apply hydrocortizone 2.5% twice daily and that it could take a long time to heal.  It has nearly been a month, it is definatly better, but it does still get pretty red in the morning and after a bowl movement.  I can't get in to see my doctor for another twenty days.  I guess my question is should I still use the hydrocortizone?  Is there anything else I can try?  Is dermatitis on the scrotum common?  Can it take this long to heal?  Could it be anything else?  Reason being that about a month before I developed the rash I started a job that required about 500% more driving than I have ever done before.  Could this be pinched nerve?  Also I have been under a lot of stress for the past 4 months could this have something to do with it?  Sorry about all the question!  Thank you for your time!

Darrin:

I think the rash is causing stress, not the other way around.  Sitting in the car for long periods doesn't help.  Yes, scrotal irritation is very common and it does take a long time to heal.  Hydrocortiosne and moisturizing will make you better.  Try to pad your bottom better on long car trips.  Don't rub or rxamine the area out of anxiety.  See your doctor.  You'll be fine.

Best.
