1. Which specific kind of physicians does a dermatologist receive the most referrals?
2. What conditions or symptoms warrant a referral to a dermatologist?
3. Is there a piece of equipment or tool that dermatologist use more than any other?

Hi,

Dermatologists receive referral from internists probably and from pediatricians.Systemic and generalized disease in children and adults may present with skin conditions. This may warrant a referral .Infectious medicine specialists, rheumatologists  and allergologists may also refer more patients.

Skin conditions such as infections, lumps, bumps, discolorations that may not be readily diagnosed by a internist  may warrant further evaluation by a dermatologist.

Currently, technology has improved and dermatologists use more state of the art equipment in their offices. A wood's lamp may be used frequently to help diagnosis  of  "tuberous sclerosis and erythrasma, both in distinguishing them from other conditions and in locating the precise boundaries of the condition. It is also helpful in diagnosing fungal infections (Microsporum audouini), bacterial infections (Corynebacteriium minutissimum, Pseudomonas), and pigmentary disorders."
