Do I have skin atrophy?

I have been using a topical streiod cream called mometasone furoate for a little over a year now. I have a patch of skin on the head of my penis right by the rim that was originaly caused by friction. I just kept using the cream until the tube ran out. Now that it has my skin is extremely red and dry. I looked into the cream and found out that it has atrophy as a side effect. Is there anything that can be done, it has been around a month and my condition is not improving. I have a doctor's appointment, but I just can't stop thinking about it.
