Do people get "hairy" as they age?

by roseann55, Aug 05, 2008 11:03PM
I am 53 and at least 4 years past menopause.  Before then and since, I have had an increasingly difficult problem with hair growth, particularly facial, but pretty much everywhere.  The lower chin hairs have progressed to actual whiskers, the hair on my upper chin isn't whiskery yet, but long, my eyebrows seem to have become wiry and out of control, and I have hair growing on the back of my hands and fingers between the two joints that I don't remember having before.  I have started to notice unruly hair on older people and am wondering, is this a normal part of aging (I am from a relatively hairy--at least the males--northern Italian family) or is this an indication of something going wrong?   Thank you.  I have never been able to find an answer to the question about hair growth and aging.  If you can help, I would very much appreciate it.   I think my problem is more severe than what I see out there, or maybe I just don't know how to take care of it.  It is very embarrassing to me.

Thank you again.
