Does Nevus of Ota get transferred to baby?

Hi,

My girlfriend has a birth mark on and around her right eye which is bluish/greyish in color. It is Nevous of Ota which she has it right from her birth. I am thinking to marry her but hesitating becaue of few questions that I have in my mind such as
1. Will my child from my girlfrined/would be wife, be born with, Nevous of Ota or such any other birthmarks?
2. Will my girlfriend would see any future possibilities of any sort of skin cancer?
3. Will my own physical skin/health be affected since I will be starting domestic relationship with her?

Hello,
Nevus of ota is usually congenital but may be acquired and found in adults also. It can have a genetic component and be transferred to the babies also. It is not contagious and if your girlfriend is having it as external nevus of ota then chances of cancer are less. People with abnormal brown spots on the uvea (known as oculodermal melanocytosis or nevus of Ota) have an increased risk of developing eye melanoma.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. As you mentioned that there may or may not have any implications on the offspring from his/her mother's birth mark, is it possible to predict from examining the mother's birth mark?or is there any sort of pre pregnancy medication that may help reduce the chances of getting the similar mark to baby?

What exactly is an eye melanoma? Does it tend to put the person at risk of loosing entire eyesight for that particular eye? (My girlfriend has it on right eye, her right eye is sort of greyish from inside, but I like it)
