Does ROH help reduce H20? Sweating..

Hi there,

I was wondering about the effective use of anti perspirant, deodorant, and rubbing alcohol.
Since aluminum chlorohydrate raises concerns for causing long term memory problems, and deodorant doesn't stop one from sweating, how about rubbing alcohol? Are you allowed/is it safe to use on your armpits as a substitute for anti perspirant? How about if you combined it with deodorant, or just used it by itself? Is it dangerous for armpits to absorb it, etc.

Thanks in advance,
:)

Hello,

Rubbing alcohol can be used underarms but regular use should be avoided as it can cause dryness and redness of skin. It can also cause redness and rashes in some susceptible individuals.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. Treatment can be started only when the diagnosis is confirmed. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hi,

From doing some reading it seems that using rubbing alcohol is safe, but that it should be used sparingly.

Also, personally I've found 1 particular brand of antiperspirant VERY effective. The active ingredient is Aluminum Sesquichlorohydrate %25 but it can even be used once every 2 days effectively.  I can't seem to find a whole lot about it causing memory problems, other than a few articles online showing suspicions that aluminum can cause memory probems.

It's aways a great idea to speak to a doctor or dermatologist about your questions. Remember that we do have an "Ask an Expert" forum here on MH.

So always check with your doctor, and feel free to ask one of the doctors on our expert forums.

Sincerely,
