Does bactroban cream work on jock itch?
I have had jock itch for about a year now in the groin on left and right inner thigh. My question is, can bactroban cream treat and cure jock itch? Its the only cream I have right now. I'm trying to save a trip and money if possible. So far I've been applying rubbing alcohol and it seems to clear the rash a little but not completely. I've been doing this for 3 days.

I know I should visit a dermatologist about this, but I have no insurance right now. When I compared a picture of jock itch to a picture of erythrasma both in the groin area, my rash was without a doubt a match to erythrasma.
Would it be safe to use the treatment creams to see if it works without visiting a dermatologist first?

Erythrasma is a skin disease that can result in pink patches, which can turn into brown scales and is caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium minutissimum.It mostly effects the folds of the body.
A Wood's lamp is useful in diagnosing erythrasma. The ultraviolet light of a Wood's lamp causes the organism to fluoresce a coral red color, differentiating it from fungal infections and other skin conditions.Treatment is by antibiotics like erythromycin or azithromycin.
I would sincerely suggest you to consult aq dermatologist and get it confirmed first.Treatment depends only on the confirmation of diagnosis.

Ok here is some new information on my rash. When I rub over it applying little pressure with a rag that has 91% rubbing alcohol on it, I can notice the rash to almost completely disapear after about 15 seconds of rubbing over it. But about 20 seconds later after stopping rubbing it, the rash appears to return.
Key reminders:
It has no pain or uncomfortable symptons. Like I said I sometimes even forget I have it because nothing at all happens to make me feel any discomfort at the rash site.
It hasn't spread at all for the past few months.
It is on my top inner thigh in the groin area on the left and right side. I have seen rashes like this in pictures of jock itch and Erythrasma. The rash however looks more like Erythrasma.
If it is Erythrasma, will it ever go away on its own and will the continuance of rubbing alcohol usage on it eventually cure it? Doesn't rubbing alcohol kill all of the bacteria and fungus on the top layer of skin?

Should I try applying garlic and see if that helps? I keep seeing garlic as treatment for scin diseases like this. Also, I clean the area on and around the patches with antibacterial soap and apply alot of corn starch powder to keep the area dry and I still see no improvement.

I read treating it can include erythromycin, fucidin cream or ointment, or with antibacterial soap. Well I think the soap I use is antibacterial although I don't always use soap sometimes I take bubble baths.
I will try changing my diet and excerising and scrub the rash with more soap and see if this helps. If not, then I will visit a doctor.

I've had the rash for so long I do not remember if it were itchy at one point. This rash has never oozed or became sore. Infact it has no symptoms of pain or discomfort at all. I often forget I even have it because I can feel nothing where the rash is as if nothing were wrong with me.

1. It is on the left and right upper thigh in the groin area
2. It has lifted edges that are red and sometimes the middle of the rash appears gone
3. It turns more red when I take hot showers
4. Its spread downwards on my thighs, but hasn't moved at all for a few months
5. The rash seems to respond to rubbing alcohol as it sometimes appears to rub off in most of the area except the lifted red edges when I scrub it with a rag with rubbing alcohol
6. It doesn't itch, but it does produce heat
7. It often makes my groin are a little moist from the scrotum to the bottom of the rash

Well the symptoms can be due to jock itch,intertrigo,heat rashes or eczema.The treatment for all is entirely different.Bactroban is an antibiotic cream.It is useful if there is intertrigo due to bacterial infections but it won’t be of any use if the symptoms are due to fungal infection(jock itch).In that case specific topical antifungals are required.
I would suggest that you consult a dermatologist and a biopsy of the skin scarppings or KOH examination of these scrapings may have to be done to confirm the diagnosis.
