Dry, red spot on cheek for 2 months now

Hi there,

I'm 32 and for the past couple months I've had a dry, red spot on my right cheek (about the size of a pencil's eraser) that, at times, is dry and flaky.  It does not hurt, and it isn't itchy...though after shaving it does feel a little "raw".  Looking at it right now, the redness appears to be most severe around the outside, while the middle is SLIGHTLY lighter.

It seems to have just "shown up" one day, and it hasn't changed at all since day one.  Originally I thought it may have something to do with the dry skin and winter time, but a trip to Florida out in the sun proved to be of no help.

I've also tried applying some moisturinzing lotion that is meant for eczema and psoriasis, but haven't really noticed any changes.

Thanks a ton in advance!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
From the symptoms it looks like dry skin or seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face.

Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches. Oral antifungal drugs and immunomodulators such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are used in very severe cases.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Still there...

It seems to alternate between "rather noticeable blemish" and "looks like it's going away but never does".

The process to see a dermatologist has begun, but since I don't have a PCP and my insurance is holding things up, it's going to be a while....so any insight would be MUCH appreciated.
