Dry Red Pimple Rash on Side of Leg - Also Itchy

Hi Doc,

I have been experiencing a type of rash which is located at the side of my left leg. To be more specific it is composed of red pimples which are itchy and kind of bleed when i scratch them. Also they tend to stay red and seem to be lifted off my leg (bumps). Sometimes it itches and sometimes it does not. I must say that i have experienced this for the past 5-6 months. It tends to go away but not for long and they appear and start to itch again.

I went to the pharmacy about 1 month ago and they gave me over the counter cream, it seemed to help a bit but the itching, red bumps and dry skin still came back.

I would like to know how severe this can be?

Also from what i just said what type of rash can this be?

Keep in mind that when i was younger i expereinced some eczema (Just a bit under my belly button).

I am currently trying to make an apointment with a dermatologist...

What can i do to calm the rash in the meantime?

Please let me know how severe this can be and what you think this might be.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam

Hi Mr. Alan,

Thank you for the reply. The rash does not seems to itch all the time, but it seems to have problems healing as there are read bumps.

I am currently placing Aveeno cream on it but i will look into the cream you suggested.

One more question, as your medical opinion you would say this is stress related, but can there be other possiblilites?

Awaiting your reply.

This does not sound serious, fungal, or sexual.  It may be stress-related.  I suggest that you wash with an antibacterial soap (like Dial), apply an over-the-counter antibiotic ream like bacitracin or neosporin ointment twice a day, use on over-the-counter anti-itch lotion like Sarna lotion as often as needed, never scratch (use Sarna every time you need to), and show whatever is left to the dermatologist when you go.

Take care.
