Dry flaky skin patches along neck and jaw line speading to face

by theeribird, Nov 03, 2009 05:28PM
Hello my name is Erin. Lately I've been battling dry spots apearing on my neck, jaw, and face. Originaly it was only one spot on the left side of my neck but now I have patches on the right and left side of my neck as well as along the sides of my jaw bone and the lower areas of my face. These patches arent itchy or painful, just very dry and flaky. Although currently they aren't very noticable I'm afraid it will spead and as a 19-year old girl Im very worrried they might affect my apearance. I have asthma and eczema however the eczema I suffer from is noting like the flaky dry patches and my eczema has never affected the area around my face.

Here our some of the medications I use:
- Albuterol (asthma)
- Yaz (birth control)
- Hydrocortisone (eczema and dry skin)
- Miconazole (I used this for a while thinking the patches might be ringworm but It apears to be somthing else)

Here are some of the products I use on my face:
- Clean and Clear Oil-free Continuous Control Foaming Acne Wash w/ 2% Salicylic Acid (I use this on a daily basis)
- Clean and Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent w/ 2% Salicylic Acid (I used to use this daily but have recently cut back)
- Clean and Clear Oil-free Duel Action Moisturizer w/ 0.5% Salicylic Acid (I use this on a daily basis)
- AcneFree Acne & Blackhead Terminator 10 Medicated Spot Acne Treatment w/ 10% Benzoyl Peroxide (I use this rarely unless I need to clear a zit)

Makeup:
Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation (I use this on a daily basis and have used this product for several years)

Thank you for any help.

To: theeribird,
Hello,
I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be seborrehic dermatitis or nummlar eczema. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry scales to form on face. You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium.
If the symptoms persist, then it would be best to get it confirmed from a dermatologist
Hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.
