Dry skin spreading very rapidly

As in... hours, both my hands have become very dry. Right one is starting to crack. It wasn't like this yesterday. I figured, low humidity. Steam not helping, all the windows are open and it's a very foggy night, not helping. Heater is off, not helping either. There are no blisters, but cracks are forming near the knuckles. Skin is getting more and more red. I've never been diagnosed with eczema before. I wouldn't be concerned, dry skin is common when winter starts, but I've never seen dry skin spread so fast like this.

I can understand having this very dry skin in winter as did my own knuckles have this, but this summer the complete back of my hands have become so very dry and sore I have been using tubes of ointment from doctor none of which has helped at all.
I have bought E45 Bath which I add to my bath water also, I have never applied so much hand care to no avail.
Has anyone any suggestions that can help, it is not getting any better, just dryer.
Thank you

I have dry itchy skin this time of the year where i live. You want to avoid moisturizers with alcohol in them. I use a cocoa butter cream found in the ethnic section of your local grocery store called 99 Point Nine Pure Cocoa Butter, and it is all natural. I don't know if you live in an are with 4 seasons as I do, but this happens to me when the weather changes. I highly recommend this cream. It cost around $3-4 dollars, the jar is yellow with purple writing on it. I could not make it thru the winter's without it. I too get dry, red cracking on hands, and inner thighs, along with the sides of my knees, and yes it comes on all of sudden. Take care hope you can find this it really works good.

Hi... I did not apply moisturizer but... I used aloe shaving cream. it seems to have quelled things somewhat. Skin is drying up again and getting flaky, but it's not as red or itchy. At least for now...

did you apply moisturizer?  It could be something you ate or came in contact with. Use a humidifier to increase humidity in your house.
