Dryed out skin and medication

by Matt McFarland, Nov 19, 1999 12:00AM
Hi Doctor-

I was looking through the archieves and I am also on the differin, moncyline, and clindamicin routine.

I have noticed that my face is generally clear of big pimples, but what is left looks like dried out markings from them, and that is difficult to deal with.  I have been using a cover makeup on it and that seems to be very over drying.

I also noticed, especially after showering, my face is extrememly dry and flaky.  I was wondering if this dryness is the reason for other breakouts and not being able to fully recover.

I am using Lubiderm on my face, but it doesnt seem to be working too well.  Is there anything else?  Better? How should any mosturizer be worked into the routine?

So, Doctor, I was wondering what I should do in this matter.  I am trying to make another appointment with the Dermalogist, but in the meantime, what can I do to rememdy this whole situation?

Progress has been made, but it is almost at a stand still; like a lost cause for the past few weeks.

Thanks for the advice,
DJL

DJL:

I'm honestly not certain what you are referring to by the dryness on leftover spots.  The creams you are using sometimes called a little dryness but only where you put them, not all over the face.  Perhaps you have some mild eczema elsewhere, which one percent hydrocortisone might help.

As for the dry spots themselves, why not try stopping the acne topical medication for a couple of days to see if the dry this goes away.  Then let your dermatologist know whether that major difference.

Best.

I was also wondering if shaving has an effect on this?
That's where the problem seems to be; in that area.

I was thinking of going to an electric shaver.  I heard that is better for the skin.

Thanks again
