EZCEMA ON MY CHILDS FACE

by lisa, Feb 23, 2001 12:00AM
I posted a question about a month ago regaurding my daughter's ezcema (eczema) on her face. I went and saw a different dr., and he put her on prednisolone 1 teaspoon a day for 7 days, and then just dropped her down to 3/4 a day. she is also taking zyrtec, 1/2 teaspoon a day. plus i am putting cutivate on her skin twice a day.. well the ezcema (eczema) is all gone, and she looks wonderful. just like you said, no matter how ugly it gets, it will not scar. and you were right.what i want to know is, when she is finally off the steroid, will it come back?? and also is being on the steroid this long gonna hurt her? she is only 22 months old. her face is just a little pink. and nothing else is left on it.. it doesn't ooze anymore, and she doesn't scratch any more. she has an appointment with a dr. in boston, will they be able to help, or will time take care of it?? thank-you for your in-put.

Lisa:

Oral cortisone helps eczema a lot, but I don't think having a kid taking this for a long time is a very good idea, since eczema does come back.  Cream should be able to control it every time it does.  The doctor you see should be able to straighten things out.

Thanks for your note.

Best.

My 12 month old has just been diagnosed with ezcema (eczema).  Over the last week his body has become completely covered and it appears to be spreading to his limbs, neck and face.  The doctor prescribed "Elocom" cream.  Will this cream clear the ezcema (eczema) and is likely to recur (will he grow out of it).  As this is a steroid cream is it safe us use regularly (especially on his face) should the condition recur or will it cause any side effects.  Also, please advise if this cream is safe to use in the diaper area.
I have been given no information at all as to how to treat this condition apart from the cream or what causes it in the first place.  Could it be caused by cows milk as I have recently started using this instead of baby formula.  Should I avoid giving my baby any particular foods which might make the condition worse?
Any help/information you can provide would be most appreciated.
Thanks.

my son is now 8 mths old and has been having ezcema (eczema) on and off nearly every mth since i started supplementing with formula on his 4th month. we found that soybased formula is better than milkbased ones. but i have had to be constantly wary of every new food that i give him. every time i let down my guard and try to give him more variety of food, the problem recurs. the other day i read that yogurt helps control ezcema (eczema) so i gave him a few spoonfuls of them two days ago. today the rashes have become worse than it ever was. i am very reluctant to continue using Elocon that our pediatrician prescribed when we first diagnosed his condition. it seems only a temporary relief. i am fearful regular use of it will cause my son to develop rosacea or skin atrophy. i am at my wits end.

my question: can i use Gold Bond medicated anti-itch cream on his face instead? this cream claims to contain no steroid or hydrocortisone at all.

please help a desperate mom

My son is six years old. Since he was five doctors diagnosed him with eczema, atopic dermattitis, etc. Until recently a dermatologist here in the Philippines told me that he has numular dermatitis. She prescribed fusicort cream, now after a year and a half  and so much antibiotics, corticoscoid cream, we have seen a tremendous relief. He is also under an oral medication "Zaditen" and KMHO4 to wash the affected area.

We hope that whatever this dermatitis is, it is under control.

I have 2 children who have suffered from ezcema (eczema) since bith. One is now 6 the other 2. I have been many places for help and found the best place to be the Natrapath.
Hydrocortizone creams are helpful when times are bad, but cause the skin to become thin over time. The skin also becomes immune to the cream when used consistently over a period of time, so giving the skin a break for a couple of days helps, even if the symptoms are bad.
Do not allow your dr to become blaza about the situation and willy nilly prescibre creams, demand he/she examine the symtons on every visit.

My first child is now 6 1/2 and has suffered for as long.
You must:
* remove all common allergens from your home e.g. dustmites, pollens etc
* consistently watch for food allergies
* avoid the use of perfumed soaps and detergents

I have found Deri Sal which is a cow udder cream to be excellent for relief, this can be purchased from the produce store.
Also if symtoms become really bad and the child is really uncomfortable get some old sheets ensuring that they are not washed in perfumed laundry detergent(lux soap flakes best) and wet them (in warm water if it is cold weather) wrap the sheet around the affected area and then wrap banadges around the sheets. This will ease the itching. It also good to apply the hydrocortisone and moisturiser under the sheet. My 6 year old was wrapped in bandages from head to toe for bed every night for 2 years, until we discovered what she was allergic to.

Good luck.
