im 19 years old and had eczema my whole life. I have it around my mouth and i am ashamed to talk to people face to face because of it. I tried almost every creams for eczema and it has helped but then it comes back. Just want to know how to get rid of it for good, im just not sure what im allergic to because if i knew i wouldnt be eating or go near the things that is causing it to come back. I cry sometimes because of it. I am the only child out of 7 kids that has eczema and they would tease about it when it just makes me wish that i was never born. It really itches and i try hard not to scratch it, when i dontt scratch it gets all red and it swells up a bit and i just dont scratch butt it really hurts! I wish there was a cure for everybody with eczema and they can be free from it forever.
I've had eczema my whole life. It's never really been bad or unsightly on my body like in the creases of my elbow or the backs of my knees. It's usually only noticeable to me, but I've have similar problems with the redness above my lips. I've been using my prescription for my arms around my mouth and that helps. Also Aquaphor gel works well for eczema anywhere. any other tips for the facial redness?
Hi,
'The term eczema is broadly applied to a range of persistent skin conditions. These include dryness and recurring skin rashes which are characterized by one or more of these symptoms: redness, skin edema (swelling), itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding. Areas of temporary skin discoloration may appear and are sometimes due to healed lesions, although scarring is rare.'
In eczema, the blood may show a raised IgE or an eosinophilia.
Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin.
They do not cure eczema, but are highly effective in controlling or suppressing symptoms in most cases.
For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone or desonide), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide).
Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for sufferers of eczema. Keeping the affected area moistened can promote skin healing and relief of symptoms.
Light therapy using ultraviolet light can help control eczema. UVA is mostly used, but UVB and Narrow Band UVB are also used. Ultraviolet light exposure carries its own risks, particularly eventual skin cancer from exposure.
