Enflamed PImple

by dcjano6868, Jan 01, 2006 12:00AM
Hello, I have had Molluscum in my past & after a few trips to the Derm it has been removed a year ago. ABout 5 months ago I saw one on my inner thigh close to my scrotum area that did resemble a molluscum pimple with the top being shiny, it was small & figured I must of missed that since it was so hard to see & left it. About a month ago it got very red & irritated, just that one pimple, there are no other around it & got really infected, the area around the pimple was very red & enflamed. The head looked like it was getting bigger & ready to burst. It never itched or hurt though. I then saw like a red line under the skin going down my thigh & got nervouse, I started taking Cephlaxin 500mg twice a day, I still have them from boils I have had a while ago. The redness tha was travelling down looks better but the Molluscum looks very large & red, very noticible, & has gotten much bigger then it was months back, barely can see it. I also experienced feeling very ill, some back pain, neck pain & just feeling liusy with bad headaches. Not sure is its related or blood poisining. So, my questions are:
1. Does Molluscum act this way?
2. Can I resolve this problem myself?
3. My feeling ill sounds related to the infected molluscum pimple?
4. Is this serious?
5. Otherwise I am a healthy 37 year old. I am never a drug user I am straight & have a low risk lifestyle.
6. Have you heard of this happening to others?
7. Will this finally just get better on its own?

Thank you Dr. & hope your New Year bring you Health & Happiness!

No, molluscum does not act this way.  You may have a bacterail infection, and if so, you can't resolve it on your own.  Even if your back pain and feeling lousy are not related (and of course they may be), you should see a doctor, and the sooner the better.

Good luck.

To: Dr,
If it was a bacterial infection, wouldn't the cephlaxin kill the infection, since that antibiotic is used for infections for that  purpose? When I had some boils that were infected they used that on me. I just made a appointment to the Derm for Monday, do you think he can look & give me direction?

The docotr will be able to tell you, I'm sure.  Oral antibiotics don't always work right away for skin bumps.
