Extremely dry fingertips?

by MamaSarahBear, Oct 01, 2007 08:10AM
I have had a problem with extremely dry, chapped fingertips for over 2 years now. Only the last three fingers on my right hand and middle/pinkie fingers of my left hand are affected. The skin is so dry on these fingertips that sometimes they will crack and cause painful spots where the skin peels. The skin looks normal colored, but the dryness causes them to look wrinkly (like when you are in water too long) and I no longer have fingertips there.
I first noticed this problem about 2 years ago working as a nurse (washing my hands alot) and it started on one finger. Slowly spread to 5 over the next few months. It is not itchy, I just wish it would heal! Any suggestions on what this could be?

Hello,
I have a lot of problem with my skin, recently my friend offers me the products from Paulaschoice.com, you should try it and find out the result.
Goodluck to you.

hello there mamasarahbear,
i suffer from dry hands too.
one tip is to wear cotton gloves to bed with vaseline smothered inside them.
it seems to rejuvinate the skin and keep is smooth.
all the best with this.. and life.

My mother was also a nurse who began to have the same symptoms and found it to be an allergic reaction to the powder in the gloves. I have had the same problem since my early 20's and have found Mary kays emolsion lotion to work the best when they are pealing. Pain is from the raw areas exposed. In my case it heals for most of the year with only 2-3 breakouts per year. You might want to go to dermatologist to just confirm.
