Face, chin, neck, irritation, infection..

10 weeks ago: cracks in both corners of mouth burning/redness on chin, dermatologist gave cortisone injection in corners of mouth, prescribed clotrimazole/hydrocortisone cream; improved to manageable over the next 6-8 weeks with slight burning on chin at times. No sores, crusting, etc. Maybe one or two pimples under skin during the entire time.

2 weeks ago: major flare up of burning on chin and neck. Dermatologist gave pramasone and larger cortisone injection, this time in hip. (Then went out of town for holiday!!).

Today: Burning continues on chin and neck, some redness, a couple of very small red bumps along hair line on bottom of neck.   I decided to see my GP and he thought it might be a fungal infection.  Prescribed Lamisil for 30 days and told to stop creams.  Now at 6th day, some slight improvement, but still have some burning on neck. Shaving irritates. I was on 2.5 months of antibiotics in the summer to clear a lung condition (July/August).

Could this have precipitated my susceptibility to fungus three months later? Have I not given the Lamisil enough time to start working? Could this be passed to my wife through gentle kissing?

THANKS in advance!!

I doubt very much that you have a fungus--your description sounds nothing like one.  Lamisil is innocuous, so you can continue taking it, but I doubt it will do anything.  I am not at all sure what your dermatologist was treating with an injection in the hip.  I suggest you contact the doctor covering for the dermatologist--if you can't access one, find another dermatologist.  This sounds like an irritation of some sort, not an infection, particularly not a fungal one.  For this reason, I doubt that you are contagious, though of course I can't say for sure, sight unseen.  (Cortisone is not used for infection, so clearly the dermatologist didn't think you were infected either.)

Take care.
