Facial hair

Hi, im a 19 year old female and i have thick spikey hair ALL over my neck...just like a guy. Could this embarassing problem have to do somthing with hormones or could this be heriditary? Also how would i go about removing this hair? I have also attached a photo.This is how fast the hair grows back after 1 week, the picture quality isn't to great..but its alot of thick hair

I would really appreciate if i could get some advice on this

Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of hirsutism.It is excessive and increased hair growth in women in locations where the occurrence of terminal hair normally is minimal or absent.It is found mainly in PCOS(polycystic ovarian disease),cushing’s syndrome,hormonal imbalance,obesity,insulin resistance or tumors in the ovaries or adrenal gland.

What about your periods;are they regular and of normal flow?

Although various methods like shaving,bleaching,depilatory creams,electrolysis or laser hair removal are available to remove the hair;the primary treatment is treatment of the underlying cause.I sincerely advise you to consult an endocrinologist and discuss the above possibilities with him.Thorough investigations are needed to rule them out and reach a confirmatory diagnosis.
