Facial lesions on 3 year old child

Hi,

My 3 year old daughter has facial lesions which my doctor is not able to diagnose.  He has said that it is simply something she will grow out of.

They first started when she was approx 1 and a half and have gone through very bad phases when they were crater looking and weeping.  We have been given Fucidin H cream (hydrocoritsone acetate and fusidic acid) and also crystacide cream (hydrogen peroxide).  They have helped to an extent but I have been using these for almost a year and have not been able to shift the lesions.

I have attached pictures of her face.  The lesions on the right have finally healed with scarring.  The lesions on the left were close to healing but have now flared up again.

Any advice would be appreciated.

It is surprising that you were not offered any explanation, in regards to potential cause and diagnosis of daughter’s skin lesions, at the time of your visit to a doctor. Does your daughter have overall dry skin? Does she have any respiratory, nutritive and/or skin allergies? Are her facial skin lesions itchy? What other objective or subjective skin symptoms does she have? Does your daughter have any other health issues (physical, mental, emotional…)?

As soon as we receive your answers to our questions, we shall get back to you with useful comments.

We were hoping to receive more information from you, but since it has been more than a week and we have not heard from you, we shall provide our answer based on data and pictures you initially shared.

The first condition to investigate in a 3 year old child with 1,5 years history of skin lesions on cheeks would be atopic eczema with possibly superimposed bacterial infection. Based on pictures, some lesions look like they might have been caused by trauma (scratching).  

We believe that patients need to be informed and educated about their condition. Therefore, we encourage you to go back to your physician and request information related to your daughter’s diagnosis that you were not given before.
