Fasten your seatbelts another question about HPV

by TRIGGER313, Mar 13, 2004 12:00AM
Hello Doctor I am a 27 y/o male, who had protected sex with a woman 2 weeks ago. She had an outbreak of HPV in 01', had the warts removed; and have not had an outbreak since. Her last pap-smear which was four months ago, she states came out fine. My question to you is there a strong possibility that I contracted this virus. Here is some Past Medical Hx about me. I have CVID (low levels of immunoglobulins IGg and IgA)so i take  replacement therapy every 3 weeks , the sex was four days post infusion. I also have crohn's take prednisone and remicade to keep that beast at bay. I've been doing some lay research and it is quite scary, but reading the forums on this website I have dismissed half of the research  and got some sleep, I have had warts on my hand before, is their a cross immunity? Being immune suppressed I try all I can to prevent opurtunistic infections and keep them to the minimum, eat resposibly, take excersise, and get adequate sleep. But the hours between 12 and 4 a.m. when i cant get any sleep it eats at me that I may have this bug, I am a guy and this is my penis we are talking about.
HPV infections have gone up are they working on some sort of prophylaxsis like they have for herpes. You got three boner pills on the market, why cant we get one for HPV, sorry if am ramblin'. So I am on the foot hills on a new relationship, different girl, what do i tell her; oh by the way she is a 4th year resident. One more thing can males only transmit the virus if they have an outbreak?

Hi.  Yes, it's possible that the woman who had warts in '01 could have transmitted them.  The risk is low, but it's impossible to say it's zero.  Your immune status is irrelevant--lots of people get warts even if they have no health issues, immune or otherwise.

But you have to put the risk in context--there are millions of people out there who had warts once, or were exposed to it and don't know it.  There is no way to avoid the warts virus with complete certainty unless you never have sex at all.

There is no cross-reactivity with hand warts--or else everyone with hand warts would have warts all over from showering.

Tell your new friend that you were once exposed to someone who once upon a time had warts.  I bet she's been esposed once or twice too.

As to why we don't have HPV pills, please support medical research generously.

Take care.

Sounds like a bump.  Wait a week.  If it goes away, forget about it.  If not, let someone have a look.
