Hi,

Appearance of one's nails may suggest an underlying nutritional disorder, stress, infection, cardiac or immune disorders. In a complete physical examination, assessing the nails is one important aspect of the exam.

In you case, this may not be something urgent. These indentations may be nonspecific. There may be certain factors involved like stress and infections that could have influenced nail growth. Are there any discoloration of the nails, any thickening, scaling or thinning?

Some skin disorder that may affect the nails are psoriasis and fungal infections. To allay your fears you may want your physician to assess this.

Are there any other associated symptoms like scaling and rash in other parts of the body? Any previous infections and anemic states?
