broke out into an awful rash that looked like mega acne. I've had minor issues in the past (when I was a teenager) and nothing like this, which happened overnight.
Today, I noticed my nails are slightly discolored. It's referred to as half and half nails or Lindsay nails. I'm not sure if the two symptoms are related and how concerned I should be. Going to the doctor isn't the cheapest option, to say the least.
Any insights would be great!
Note: I have a clean bill of health from my yearly check-up (about 4 months ago) and am female
Look up pictures of Darier's disease and see if this looks like you. I know it's kind of a stretch, but the lesions associated with Darier's make me think MAJOR acne and it's one of the few things I can think of that involves a red bumpy rash as well as discoloured nails. I know Darier's is one of those diseases that flares up at certain points in your life and patients usually start exhibiting symptoms in young adulthood, so there's a good chance this isn't the issue, but I've been trained to look for rare diseases, what can I say?
Try hydrocortisone cream on the rash to reduce inflammation (and itching
, if applicable). If the rash seems to clear up on its own and you don't notice any other symptoms (half and half nails can be associated with chronic kidney failure, but if you were fine 4 months ago that is likely not the case), you are probably okay to skip on the doctor's visit.
