Flaky Scalp?

by DRX8, Feb 16, 2009 09:31AM
I have quite dry hair, and as such recently I have been getting a slightly itchy scalp with fairly bad flaking mainly down the sides of my scalp? Are fairly small white flakes just a dry scalp because of the winter months? If so how can I treat it. Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for writing in. Dry flaky scalp can occur due to too much dryness or too much oily nature of the scalp. Also, due to hormonal changes, diet, stress, shampoo’s etc there is a change in the production of sebum there by causing dandruff leading to flaky scalp. The natural fungus present on the scalp gets activated due to the above mentioned changes and causes dry flaky scalp.
Treatment involves antidandruff shampoos containing antifungals, hair wash not too often with harsh shampoos and avoid hot showers.
Best.
