Foliculitis or keratosis pilaris

My son is 14  our gp diagnosed him with foliculitis (folliculitis)  he has had antibiotics for a month it made a slight improvement  but it came back worse he had another month on antibiotics and antihistamines   And it still has nt gone. I have been readin some of the comment on keratosis  and it sounds like my son could have this what is the difference between the two conditions

With keratosis that can encapsulate the hair follicle and the follicle become infected.  

Keratosis are like goosebumps crudely speaking.

As he is 14 has he started to shave at all?  If he has make sure he is shaving in the direction of the hair growth.

As he is in puberty his hormones will be changing and that might have a lot to do with it too.  Make sure he keeps he face clean and washes gently with soaps like Simple.  Nothing harsh.
