Folliculitis Question

Folliculitis Question

Hello. Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed various red pimple-like bumps occuring in my pubic region. Some of these bumps are on the bottom of the shaft of the penis (but where hair is still groiwng abundantly). I shaved the region about a month ago. The bumps itch, and always have hairs growing in the center. When I remove the hairs (which come out very easily) a white, puss-like substance comes out of the area, followed by a little blood, then the inflammation begins to reduce.  At first I was concerned about it being herpes, but I believe that I have Folliculitis, since every bump has (or has had) a hair growing from a follicule in the center, and there are no lesions or blistering. Also, the last time I had unprotected sex was with an ex girlfriend 8 months ago, who said she had been tested and didn't have anything (she worked at our college's clinic). I still have some questions about this condition, though:

Does it sound like I have Folliculitis? I just want to be sure that the symptoms I've described fit my personal diagnosis.

Does it spread easily in the region where it started? I am asking because they keep seem to be appearing in the same general region. I still feel a little nervous because they sometimes appear close together, and I get worried that it could be something else (they are all still on the follicules, though.)

Is an over-the-counter antibacterial soap a good solution?

Thank you in advance!

Does anyone have any recommendations? Just recently a small, red zit-like bump formed near one of the infected hair follicules. Is this just a zit, or something more serious, and could it be related to the follicules?

Hi,

This could be due to acne/pimples/ or infection of the hair follicles called folliculitis or some bacterial infection/ fungal infection or some skin nodules etc.

Nothing can be said with surety without having a look at the lesions.

It would be best to reconsult your doctor about your symptoms if they do not resolve and get a proper clinical examination.

Keep the area clean and wear clothes washed in a few drops of chlorhexidine preferably and dried in the sun.

You could take oral antihistamine or antiallergic medications for the itching.

Let us know about what your doctor advises.

Regards.
