Folliculitis or Herpes

by Frog78, Dec 03, 2008 01:11PM
On Tuesday when my husband and I made love it burned a little and as the day went on it started to burn when I had to urinate. Then on Thursday maybe even Friday I started to notice bumps under my skin towards the top of my vagina where my hair is,  I tried to squeeze them but nothing happened. They were painful to squeeze and I am somewhat over weight so I thought they were pimples or deep zits, so I tired to put some acne medicine on them. With in a day they became red and painful, but they had white heads on them so I thought the acne medicine had helped move them along. I tried to sqeeze them but nothing would happen.

Becuase I was traveling out of state this whole time I was not able to go to the hospital until Sunday night. I was releived to get medicine for my bladder infection, but when I had the doctor examine my bumps she said she thought they were herpes. She said they might be folliculitis but was going to test them to be sure and took a viral cluture. She said she was leaning towards herpes becuase there were 2 seperate pimple like bumps, not next to each other, but they were not in my hair line. I do shave so she said it was a possibility of folliculitis but the 2 that were not in the hairline were making her suspicious. So it is now Wednesday and the bumps are almost gone, I haven't had any crusting or scabbing and I haven't slept with anyone besides my husband, so I am very confused about how this could be Herpes.

I have to wait another week to get my results and I am just trying figure out what is going on. I don't feel like I have the herpes symptoms becusae my bumps did not start out as blisters on top of my skin they were underneath it. What is your opinion?

Your description does not sound anything like herpes.  It does sound like folliculitis, possibly aggravated by your squeezing or pulling.  I am confident that the culture will be negative.  If the condition comes again, let a doctor see at as soon as possible, so you'll be sure.  But herpes does not seem at all likely.

Best.
