Folliculitis?

by david, Feb 14, 2001 12:00AM

Hello Doctor

I'm a bodybuilder and I often shave my body,
I think from all this shaving I developed Folliculitis on my legs.
I have red spots on my calves under my skin where hair grows,
in some places the hair doesn't grow anymore, it only has small red spot, looks like the follicle is filled with blood, it's everywhere on my calves,  from what I understand it is folliculitis and it's a
bacterial infection of the hair follicles.

Is there anything I can do about it? I stopped shaving my legs 6 months ago but it doesn't go away. The small red spots are still there under my skin, I tried washing with Apple cider vinegar,
tea tree oil, didn't work.

I heard about some antibiotics taken orally can get rid of it.

Please help,
Thanks

David:

Doesn't sound like folliculitis to me--that goes away.  They may be tiny blood vessels.  I'm not sure what the relationship, if any, is with shaving.

I'd see a cosmetically-oriented dermatologist, for both diagnosis and possible laser treatment, sonce the spots bother you.

Best.
