Folliculitis?

by gms, Jun 08, 2004 12:00AM
Is possible to develope folliculitis on the shaft of the penis, bottom side, near the head, where hair does not grow. Is folliculitis the same as an infected pore/gland even with the absence of a hair follicle. I have a small sore on the bottom side of of my penis that will not clear up( 7 weeks and running ). It does not appear to be a blister. It is more of a pimple. I did pick at it and a small scab resulted. When the scab fell off the pimple remained. It does not cause great pain but every now and then I do feel a slight sensation so I am awhere it's there. Is this folliculitis?

Yes, you can get inflammation even of follicles that don't have hairs in them.  I suspect that the spot is persisting because you are probing and picking it.  I advise you to make an appointment to have a doctor take a look, and meantime leave it entirely alone except for applying neosporin ointment daily.  If the spot goes away completely before the visit, that will be useful information for the examining physician.  But yes, I do think this is folliculitis rather than an STD.

Best.
