Follow up to herpes questoin

by insearchofanswers123, Mar 27, 2007 12:00AM
I posted a question on the std board http://www.medhelp.org/forums/STD/messages/3985.html

I got a type specific herpes test and it came back positive for HSV 1 but negative for hsv 2.

I'm still worried because i can't figure out what i had,and i've heard that herpes test aren't always reliable.  I get a somewhat dull pain in my penis head when pressed.  I'm not sure if this is my mind making up problems or if it's a real problem.

It's been almost 3 years since the outbreak of 25 or so pimple like things on my penis.  And it's never come back.  Should i take the negative herpes test as being reliable?  Could what i had on my penis been hsv 1?  I never get cold sores and can't remember even having one at any age.

I'm just not sure to take the negative results as true fact.  Or i should just take them as no HSV2 antibodies were found but could still be there.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, I think you should take the negative herpes test as reliable.  I'm not sure what the pimples were 3 years ago, but with a negative gerpes 2 test, you needn't worry about that.  A positive herpes 1 test tells you nothing.  Get a second herpes 2 test if you must, but it sounds as though what you really need is counseling to find out why you're so concerned about herpes when you don't need to be, and what you can do about it.

Best.
