Fungal Infection

Fungal Infection

6 months back when I had itching I consulted skin specialist.  He said it is fungal infection and gave a prescription of Phytorol (for fungal infection-daily one for 10 days) and Sizon Forte for controlling itching.  It came down but not 100%.  Now when I have this problem again I took the same prescription but in vain.  I again consulted him and he gave me a stronger dose Canditral for 5 days and Peritol for controlling itching.  Now that fungal infection is under control but itching is still there.  The main problem symptoms are as follows :

1.  Many times in a day I feel like scratching vigorously
2.  I feel like plucking the hairs around the groin region
3.  It is unbearable

The doctor advises me not to assault the groin region and he assures me as the day passes it will be controlled.

But since it is unbearable I need your advice.

Thanks

Phani:

Once a fungus is cured, it stays away, at least for a long time.  If you are continuing to itch that severely, it is likely that the itch comes from concern over persistent fungus and not from fungus itself.  Therefore:

1. Stop worrying.  Fungus even when present is superficial and easy to cure.
2. Obtain an anti-tich lotion containing camphor and menthol.  Apply it as often as needed for itch, every 5 minutes if needed.
3. Apply a moisturizing lotion at bedtime.
4. Do not scratch, as this perpetuates the problem.

Stay in touch with your physician.  You most certainly will get better, with no long-term aftereffects.

Best.
