The next day she started breaking out in a rash on her joints..wristsWrist pain, elbowsElbow pain, knees ankles soles of feet and palms of hands. She called the dr back and of course nothing had had time to grow on the culture. This rash continued to spread now it is on the hip joints. I ahd something 27 years ago that was so similar to this and it ended up being Reiter's syndrome.
She then saw another dr and he checked her for auto immune response and a few other things. All of these tests came back normal. The first dr called (10 days later) and said the fungus culture grew. So now we at least know it is fungus.
She then saw a dermatologist... .And even tho he had the fungus report he decided it doesn't look like a fungus to him.He decided the rash on her elbow looked like scabies...
OK come on now, would they really be on every joint, bilaterally almost in a pattern? There were no lines of rash just circled on the joints and on the soles and palms. So he does a biopsy...to check for scabies...(I was not with her and she does not speak up much yet) I did go with her yesterday to get the stitches out from the biopsy and the dr says..."The biopsy was negative for scabies, however I just can't discount how it looks like scabies so I will treat it as scabies"
I practically went through the roof. I said no we are not treating something that came back negative and does not even present as scabies, the culture came back positive for fungus and he says but it doesn't look like a fungus to me...
We left with a prescription for itching and some cream (steroid) I asked if over the counter fungal cream would be ok to use as the initial infection on the finger is returning (she lost all of the skin on that finger from the first bout of bumps) Again he tells her not to treat it as a fungus because it doesn't look like one to him. I will probably not be allowed in that office again but that's ok.
We still have no clue what is going on, nor do we know where to turn to find out.
Does the rash on the joints, palms, and soles indicate anything, or is this one of those broad symptoms that is common with a lot of things?
Thanks for taking time to read this and for any answers that are provided.
