Genital Itching

by Monica8, Jul 09, 2003 12:00AM
I'm a female and had unprotected sex several months ago. A week afterward I had a mind-blowingly painful yeast infection that took about two weeks to get rid of, following by an intermittant low-level itching. The itching is confined to the pubic region, is slightly worse at night, but is not accompanied by any visual rashes, bumps, discoloration, etc. There's no signs of any visible parasites (crabs) and the situation has not spread (scabies). Several weeks ago I had physical contact with the same partner as before but no intercourse and experienced the same unbelievably painful yeast infection (now over) and same annoying, low-level itching. Would this be a possible fungal infection or ??? I tried tea tree oil antiseptic and that seemed to help a wee bit but not eliminate the problem.

I'm not sure but I will offer two suggestions: The first is that the area remains sensitive after the yeast infection.  The second is that you're itching down there because you're worried you have something.  You certainly don't have a fungus (there would be a rash) or scabies (entirely different presentation.)  I suggest benign neglect.

I can't think of any relationship between intercourse and yeast infection.  Are you absolutlely sure that's what you had, or was it self-diagnosed and treated?

I think a doctor's visit ofr diagnosis and reassurance is in order.

Best.
