Genital Warts or Skin Tag

Genital Warts or Skin Tag

Hello.  About a month ago I had a growth of skin removed from my genital area (on the testicles but not on the shaft).  My family doctor said that it was most likely genital warts.  I would like to get a second opinion because I've looked at some information online and I've developed some doubt and also confusion.

So here it goes.  The growth began to grow shortly after I shaved my genital area (I initially thought it was an ingrown hair), but it kept growing and I began to think otherwise.  I don't know if the shaving thing has anything to do with it or not.  It grew for about a month slowly until it stopped and stayed the same size (until removed).  In the end it just looked like a hanging piece of skin.  It looked like it could fall off because it looked like it was sort of sitting on top of my other skin...it was also very soft.  It had no cauliflower look to it and had no discoloration.

Since I got it removed, I've looked at several pictures online of skin tags and genital warts and it doesn't look like the warts...mainly because there was no cauliflower and the base of what I had was very thin almost like a tiny flap of skin that was holding on.  Also, there was only one....and everywhere I read about genital warts it talks about groups of them.

It looked kind of like this:

Only there was only one and mine was quite a bit smaller (and of course it was on my genitals).

So when I went into the doctor for a check up  she looked at it briefly and sounded surprised when I said there was only one.  She froze it off.  It scabbed up and the scab fell off after about two weeks and now it's gone.

So, I'm wondering, is this warts or a skin tab, or something else?  Also, how contagious is this, and for how long?  If it is warts I don't want to spread it, but at the same time if it isn't I don't want to worry my future partners.

Thank you for your help.

Skin tags are common on the neck (where they're shown in the picture), but less so on the scrotum.  On the other hand, warts are common on the penile shaft, not on the scrotum either.  So basically, the only way for you to know with something close to certainty what this was would be for a doctor skilled in diagnosing STD's have a look and evaluate you.  Of course, now that it's been taken off, it will be hard to tell.  If there's nothing there, there isn't much to do anyway but wait until or unless something like it comes back.

Best.

I seem to have a similar dilemma to yours.  I have read that after 1-2 years that the virus diminishes or leaves the system.  I do hope all works out for you.  Looking at the link you attached withimages I would think that it is not a wart but I am not a doctor! My own appears more like a sliver of skin .  Hang in there

I have noticed a similar bump that I very much fear is a genital wart.  Like bring84 I have only one bump and it is near my hair line.

I've provided a link to a photo.

Could you please let me know what you think?

Thank you.
